Dr. EDWIN BONNER BDS MDent
Edwin qualified as a dentist at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1967. He then moved to the UK where he worked in NHS dental practice until 1973. After attending the Sloan Programme at the London Business School, leaving as Sloan Fellow, he moved into private dental practice for 5 years, before becoming Registrar at the University of Witwatersrand School of Dentistry until 1985.

Achieving a Masters prosthodontics, Edwin returned to specialist dental practice in Johannesburg, and worked part-time as a specialist lecturer at the University of Pretoria before returning to the UK in 1990, to full-time private practice. Edwin has also served as an expert witness in approximately 500 cases in work mostly related to personal injury, but also to dental negligence, mainly on behalf of the complainant. His main fields of interest include, general restorative dentistry; dental prostheses (dentures, crown and bridges); facial, head and neck pain, including whiplash; and temporo-mandibular joint dysfunction.
NIGEL CARTER BDS LDS
Nigel Carter is Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation. He has been a key player in the Foundation for the past 20 years. A general dental practitioner and experienced broadcaster, Nigel has been closely involved in training the dental profession and regularly appears on TV and radio advising the media and the public on dental health issues.
JOHN HUNT OBE FFGDP(UK) BDS LDS
Smile-on Board Director and Chairman of the Advisory Board. John brings a wealth of experience and expertise in dental affairs to smile-on. During his time as Chief Executive of the British Dental Association for nearly eight years, membership and services of the BDA increased significantly, as did the BDA's reputation at home and overseas.

John has had a varied career within dentistry, following qualification from Guy's Hospital in the 1960s. He worked as a resident dental house officer and taught at what is now The Royal London before joining a large family practice for 11 years. Afterwards, he worked in Hong Kong at the Prince Philip Dental Hospital, then moved back to the UK to work with the Department of Health. With all that experience, he then took up the challenging role at the British Dental Association in 1993.

John is currently the Speaker of the FDI and is also the Treasurer of the Commonwealth Dental Association. As well as obtaining an OBE for services to the profession, he was also elected an honorary member of the American Dental Association in recognition of his international activities.
Prof. RICHARD IBBETSON BDS MSc FDS RCS
Director, Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute Chair of Primary Dental Care, University of Edinburgh Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, Lothian Primary Care NHS Trust

Graduating at Guy's in 1974, Richard spent 2 years in general dental practice and a short period abroad. He returned to the UK, completing his MSc in Conservative Dentistry in 1979 at the Eastman. This began a 20 year association with the Institute where he was appointed consultant in 1986, and Head of Department from 1992-1995. He established a new department of Continuing Education, became Vice Dean of the Institute and latterly, Dean for External Relations. In 1999 he was appointed to the Chair of Dental Primary Care at the University of Edinburgh and took up the post of Director of the new Postgraduate Dental Institute of the University of Edinburgh.

He has established an international reputation as a teacher in Conservative Dentistry and Fixed Prosthodontics. His research interests centre on the effectiveness of continuing education in dentistry, adhesive cast restorations and the development of dental research within the setting of Primary Care.

Richard's main clinical interests lie in the practice of fixed prosthodontics particularly the development of adhesive cast restorations, relative axial tooth movement and restoration of endodontically treated teeth.

He holds several positions on national committees, examining and editorial boards and has an extensive portfolio of publications.
DIPAK JOSHI BDS LDS DGDP
Dipak is a general dental practitioner with a diverse professional background. He has worked in hospital service as an associate, trainer, tutor, and currently runs two dental practices in London. He has been a consultant dentist to commercial companies and been involved with product evaluation and design.

He has also served on committees, given lectures and published articles. He is currently co-ordinating training courses for TEAMWORK.
NICK KENDALL BDS MSc DDPH RCS
Nick Kendall is the Medical Director and Professional Head of Dental Services for Croydon and Surrey Downs Community Trust with special responsibility for liaison with Medical and Dental Practitioners in and outside of the organisation at consultant level. He is the lead Director for Medicine and Dentistry, providing professional and clinical advice to the Trust Board.

Nick is on the Specialist List in Dental Public Health and is currently undertaking an MBA at the OU Business School. He is an Honorary Lecturer with the Department of Dental Public Health and Community Dental Education at GKT, London.
EDWARD LYNCH BA BdentSc FDS RCS PhD
Edward Lynch is Professor of Restorative Dentistry at Queen's University Belfast. He is a prolific author with a wealth of research publications to his name. Edward is renowned for his practical approach to clinical dentistry and his courses on clinical techniques, especially in the field of caries diagnosis and treatment.

He is the executive editor of Gerodontology and is a member of the editorial board of Reality.
NIGEL PITTS FDS BDS PhD FFGDP
Following graduation in 1976, Nigel spent four years in the Conservation Department at the London Hospital before moving to the University of Hong Kong. Whilst lecturing in the Faculty of Dentistry's Conservation Department, he gained his PhD, and returned to the UK in 1985 to take the post of Director of Dental Health Services Research Unit and Honorary Consultant in Conservative Dentistry at the University of Dundee. With almost twenty years experience and a large portfolio of projects to his name, Nigel has established himself as a leading authority in cariology and dental health services research. He has been widely published on these subjects, with over 120 peer-reviewed journal articles and 40 scientific reports/book chapters. In addition to supervising postgraduate research, he is an acclaimed international speaker on research and clinical practise. He has chaired and presided over international research organisations and has done much to influence dental public health in Scotland.
Dr. ROSIE TOPE
A Registered Nurse and qualified teacher with a doctorate in Interprofessional Learning between the Health and Social Care Professions. Rosie is now a consultant and project leader with a variety of agencies including the EU, Department of Health, NHS Executive and a number of NHS Trusts. She is an External Fellow of the University of Glamorgan.
