Company helps to fight infection spread in Haiti

Topdental (Products) Ltd, a manufacturer of high level disinfection wet wipes, has donated 120,000 of these surface disinfection wipes towards assisting the plight of the unfortunate people of Haiti. The wipes will be used to help combat the growing concern for the spread of infection in the area.

The goods are being sent on a Vessel sailing from Portsmouth and will be delivered to Cap-Haitien' in the north of the island, fortunately this hospital was not affected by the earthquake and is now having to treat the injured, the current population is more than one million people.

The wipes will be used in field hospitals by teams of American and British doctors and medical teams, the wipes will also be deployed to the hospital to kill off viruses in surgical theatres. The wipes were of particular interest as they have been tested to new Phase II guidelines which enables them to be used in surgical operating theatres as well as general areas requiring high level disinfection.

Managing director Peter Tapper said: "I feel that the imposing problem will be the spread of infection from general waste and the inadequate drain and sewage systems in the area. Potentially this could be as big a disaster as the actual earthquake itself. These unfortunate people not only require food and shelter but protection from the impending problem of a major and potentially disastrous spread of killer infections. I personally felt it our duty as manufacturers to assist in everyway possible to prevent this possible spread."
